Application for exemption

On this page, you can learn more about how to apply for an exemption from the rules for drone operations in Greenland.

As a professional pilot, you can apply on behalf of or as a representative of businesses and institutions for an exemption from the rules if your drone operation is intended for testing, research, or commercial purposes.

We can approve your application based on an operational manual or on the basis of the previous Danish drone certificate.

If we approve your application, it is important that you comply with the rules in BL 9-4 and AIC B 08/14. In addition, your drone must be covered by a valid liability insurance.

How to apply for an exemption

There are two ways you can apply for an exemption from the rules:


1 - Request with an operational manual

We can grant an exemption from specific paragraphs in BL 9-4. In this case, you must submit an application to us. Your application must be supplemented by an operational manual, which must include procedures for how you plan to operate your drone. The remote pilots who will be flying for the company and will be covered by the exemption must be able to demonstrate a certain level of experience with drone flying.

2 - Request with a drone certificate

Under AIC B 13/18, we can issue an exemption to you as a remote pilot if you have obtained a drone certificate according to the previous Danish drone regulation before the EU rules came into force for drone flights in urban areas.

In connection with this exemption, it is a requirement for all drone categories that the operational provisions in the previous drone regulation are followed.

To apply for an exemption from the rules in BL 9-4, you must complete and submit the application form below:

Once you have completed the application form, you must submit it along with the relevant documentation (operational manual or drone certificates, and possibly a risk assessment) to info@trafikstyrelsen.dk.

Please indicate "UAS - Exemption Application Greenland" in the subject line of the email you send to Trafikstyrelsen.

 

Special conditions for drone operations in Greenland. 

Please note that if you wish to fly above 100 m above ground level, fly with a drone heavier than 25 kg, and/or wish to fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), which exceeds the rules in BL 9-4 and AIC B 08/14, in addition to the application form, you must prepare and submit a risk assessment based on JARUS SORA.

Expected processing time

When applying for an exemption from BL 9-4, Trafikstyrelsen works with a service goal of 30 calendar days. If an exemption is requested to fly above 100 m above ground level and/or BVLOS operations, a longer processing time must be expected.

The service goal assumes that the case is fully informed upon receipt, meaning that the case contains all necessary information for Trafikstyrelsen to make a decision. Any additional time spent on dialogue with the applicant and obtaining further information to fully inform the case is not included in the service goal calculation.
